AR Technology and Position Mapping

AR technology is the projection of digital content over the real-world environment. The key component in placing digital content in real world is the ability to map the real world into an augmented space that the software can understand.

AR technology uses your device’s camera to read and access the real-world environment. However, the camera lacks the ability to actually make sense to the environment that is captured. This is because there is no perception of depth in camera unlike the human eye and brain.

For that, depth-sensing cameras were introduced to add the perception of depth in cameras for better environment recognition and detection.

There are two ways the AR technology can be used:

  1. By a marker/tracker image
  2. By surface detection and position mapping which is tracker less
